The first step in METU-Technopolis architecture was taken with METU Technology Development Centre Building, which was put in complete service by 1992. Within the framework of the development plan, METU-Twins and METU-Halıcı Software House buildings were established by 1998 as the first stage, and got into full swing in 2000. SEM-2 Prefabricate Building of 800 m 2 together with the Silver Blocks which was put into complete service in October 2002, a total closed area of 25000 m 2 has been achieved., The construction of SATGEB and Milsoft R&D buildings was started by the end of 2003, and the total closed area has reached to 60.000 square meters with a multiple increase in 2004.
As a result of its rapid development, by the year 2003 METU-Technopolis has reached to a closed area which was targeted for the end of 2005 in its development plan prepared in 1997. . Notwithstanding, it is expected that the superstructure area will increase more within 2005 with the completion of current construction works. In METU-Technopolis, where an independent physical environment and life style from the city is trying to be created, with their architectural specifications and environment arrangements, these buildings are planned to be the best models.
In the design of Technopolis buildings, it is important to create a genuine architectural balance in style, building technology, process and consistency of environment; to bring about genuine physical environment and living places, supporting the inventive study, scientific and social interaction of individuals and the researchers working within the framework of university-industry cooperation.
The buildings are formed as reflecting the identities of different users simultaneously with more than one access opportunities. “Technology, flexibility, quality and social communication” are their keywords. The architectural facilities are searched at the speck where permanent and temporary (for periodical user); public and private (university and private industrial sector); and the freedom of the researcher and public expectations are harmonized together with where the structure economy is assured.
